1969 King Seiko Hi-Beat 5626-7010
Coming from Drew’s personal collection. A note from the curator:
“This is my King Seiko, from 1969. I bought this watch in Japan a few years back after learning about the feud between King Seiko and Grand Seiko in the late 60’s and early 70’s.
Grand Seiko was produced by the Suwa Seikosha factory.
King Seiko was made by the Daini Seikosha factory.
The goal? To foster competitiveness in the brand and make some amazing pieces. Well, it worked. We all know now that Grand Seiko took the cup. But, in its time, this watch was the Crème de la crème for the brand. King Seiko and Grand Seiko rivaled each other for years and ended up being revolutionary in the watch space. I love how 70s this watch really is and to be honest - it fits like a dream on my 6.5 wrist. Also, the TV style case is sneakily stunning.
Hope you enjoyed this little story, see the actual specs down below.”
